A poem inspired by a moment of online romance…

I wasn’t looking for you

I wasn’t seeking what I’ve found

…In you…

I wasn’t expecting to react to you the way I did

I didn’t think that I might begin to fall….

Thoughts of you stir confusion within my heart

The vision of your form ever present in my mind’s eye

Beneath the waxen glow of the moon as I slumber, my dreams cast you in the starring role.

…and I wake in the morning…

……unable to shut out the intense gaze of your eyes

My heart flutters at the sight of you before me

…butterfly wings stroke my insides and I feel warm, trembling inwardly as emotions foreign to my senses pulse through me in an overwhelming torrent wave…

Words are summoned to my tongue with a will of their own…

…and I struggle to suppress them…

…fear of myself… of you… Of what you make me feel… my own traitorous heart…

The great distance that stands between us I am keenly aware

…and yet…

I can’t help but long for the warm tingle that washes over me when I meet your stare

This thing… this fixation that has developed over such a small stretch in time bewilders me beyond belief and I am left with a questioning bemusement that affects everything that I do

The future remains uncertain

But my heart is ever hopeful despite my fears
