An incident that could change a person’s point of view forever.
I went to a store to get some bread
The weather was fine and not so wet
I looked to the other side of the street
I saw some children, all happy and sweet
They were playing, together and non-discrete
It was fun watching them play
All without fear and no dismay
And then it came to me
All of a sudden like thee:
I’ve got to get going!
Else I’ll be late!
So I kept going towards the store
Already returned back to my usual pace of walk
I wasn’t going to stop, nor would I halt!
But then: hey! What’s that?
I turned towards the origin of the shout
And I was shocked, to put it in fact
A crook was running, holding his unrighteous earned keep
Leaving only a screaming and quite angry shop keep
I just couldn’t leave that be!
A quick thought visited me
So i burst to full speed
Hoping to catch that petty no-good thief
I ran so fast, so very fast
That a few seconds later the burglar was already in my grasp
He didn’t struggle much, so it wasn’t hard to hold him
Then I decided that to finish this, he must unmask!
I reached out for his dark-red sick-looking bikers head-wear
Already thinking about his face being ugly and old
Oh my! The truth was different than I had foretold!
It was a small boy, barely out of his fourteen
Much like what I saw play before – some teens
I asked the boy: what were you thinking?
I just want to feed my family, he said like winking
Seeing that he’d only stolen a few lousy pennies
I wondered, whether it was worth all these messy messes
So I released him, not taking his loot
He stood for a second, looking at me like a galoot
Then he shot off, running like crazy
I turned around and saw the shop keep
Glaring towards me, his eyes angry and mind hazy
Why’d you do that? He asked
It was only a few cents that he stole, the rascal
I don’t care – now you’re a culprit!
Sod off, you annoying money vulture!
I walked away, ignoring the merchant’s screams
Though I could hear them a mile away
But were they real, or just in my head?
I didn’t care – with this I was quite fed
So that was the end of that – I just went home
While walking down the street, all sunk in contemplation and alone
I saw the playground I’ve seen before
It was empty, the back and the fore
I couldn’t help but speculate where had the children gone
The incident, the one that happened earlier today
Had changed my point of view for quite some time
And, after lots of long and boring walking
I entered my house, the door was creaky, roaring
As I laid onto my bed, I couldn’t help but think
That I still haven’t bought any bread
