I enjoy writing poems for children and have had the privilege of sharing several of my poems with children in our local schools and helping them to write their own, to use their words and their imagination. One day we made kites and this is the poem I wrote for them…Read more.

IF I WAS A KITE

If I was a kite,
or a kite was me,
oh what fun
I think it would be
to zigzag across the windy sky
up high above all the trees.
If I was a kite
on a very long string
I could fly with the birds
but without any wings.
I’d tease the wind.
I’d dance merrily,
if I was a kite
or a kite was me.
I’d dance with the clouds.
We’d race ‘cross the sky.
Oh what fun it would be
if I only could fly.
If I was a kite
way up high in the sky.
I’d wear pretty ribbons
all tied in bow-knots.
I’d smile and I’d twirl
and I’d wave a lot
to all of the people
watching me fly.
If I was a kite
caught on wind to the sky.
