Life trails,

if religion fails,

and loneliness would make the world stand still,

picture this if you will,

the church was deserted,

filled with throbbing silence,

darkness between the choir stalls,

shadows on the walls,

as night falls,

the wind moving past the alter,

into the narrow ambulatory,

behind the apse

where the stillness paused

at the arched entrance,

waiting, waiting, waiting,

if religion fails.
