How would you spend your last hours?

Empty the accounts, cancel the debts
Drink too much wine just because you can
Live the rest of my time with no more regrets
Spontaneous and free, to hell with the plan.

I’ll cherish each moment, call all my friends
Give kisses away to one and all
To those I have hurt I will try to make amends
Undo every mistake I can recall

Hug my kids extra tight; tell them stories of my youth
Leave the dirty dishes in the sink
Tell nothing but the complete, whole, unvarnished truth
And always say exactly what I think

Check in one last time with folks far and near
Re-read some of my favorite works
Attend at least one Hollywood premiere
Waste not one second on fools or jerks.

Take the family and hit the road
Cancel my appointments for next week
Crack that damned Sudoku code
And never again turn the other cheek.

Mostly I would just want to be
To live in each moment before it all goes away
To adore you with every thing that I am or have
Even though I have always done that anyway.

That’s a lot to do..:) I was going to tell you that some of those things you do everyday anyway but you said it better with your last line.

What would *I* do? Hm. My flight-or-fight instincts would have an interesting challenge.

If I were my usual tender-hearted self, I’d probably bury myself in the strongest bunker I could find to cushion the blow. If the event caught me properly caffeinated, I’d probably go out and watch the show. What else could I do?

Either way, I wouldn’t stop “turning the other cheek” as Jesus meant that phrase. The advice is for one’s own peace of mind, not the other idiot’s.

And I really enjoy the poem as a poem: very tasty.
