Poem.

A festival of yam

A celebration of hard work

A day of relaxation

A day of harvest for the farmers

The Igedes long for this day

For this day commence the eating of yam

Longing for the blue, white and blue attire

Longing for omokwu the village masquerade

Longing for new friends and lovers

Comes visitors from Diasporas

It entails brotherhood to us

It entails love and unity

It entails the survival of a race

It entails our continuity

The story of our making

A culture of our heritage

A pride inside of us

From sunrise to sunset

It is eating, drinking and celebration

From the village square omokwu entertain us

Every corner witness dancers

From mothers kitchen come new aroma

The sound of mortar is heard everywhere

Eriba the best palm wine tapper longs for this day

Ikong our warrior wrestle many down

The children await it like a groom awaits his bride

No moment goes unnoticed

To every Igede son, we know this date

We know it than our birth

The events are unforgettable

The pictures indelible

It is worth waiting for day and night

We worship and adore this day

Igede agba – the festival of yam.
