Poem about aging.

Sketch: Frozen River
river song at the dam,
susurrations from beneath ice sheets.
a fallen tree rests on/over the edge
while never-ending waters cascade…
and my heart is the waters
slipping into song and season melt;
sky to rain,
rain to river,
river to lake,
lake to sea.
a journey that frightens me.
Harpersfield Dam divides
the downriver flows
and upriver ice…
so I become the dam,
safe from the trip.
I am the divide.
I am between Winter and Spring thaw melodies
witness to the fishermen,
the road,
the covered bridge…
I am the underwater watcher of tree-lined riverbanks
tightly holding on to avoid eternity
while anything
and everything
rushes on by…
