I was just wondering why I never have enough time to do all that I want to do on my computer even though I have retired.

I’m Lucky Really

You would think that now I’ve retired

I would have lots of time which is free,

To spend on all the hobbies I’ve started

And concentrate on little old me.

Then why is it I can’t find a moment,

Mid the housework and shopping and such,

To spend on my beloved computer?

I don’t think I’m asking too much.

I hate all the washing and ironing.

Cooking meals bores me most of all,

And my hubby can be quite demanding

And often drives me up the wall.

Then there are visits to friends and our outings.

Exercising to keep health at its peak.

There are even my favourite programmes

Which keep me glued to the telly each week.

I know I should think more about others,

But there are times when I’m feeling quite stressed.

Hang on, I think I’ll stop all my moaning

As I’m so lucky with the life I’ve been blessed.

Wonderful! Being a housewife, I sometimes feel this way…especially since the kids are both in school now! I thought I would have a lot of free time to concentrate on my online shop and writing! My life seems more hectic than ever, though! I LOVE the last few lines of this poem. We all really should remember the blessings in our lives and not bemoan the little stuff!! :-) Thanks so much for posting this!

There is never enough time in a day, no matter what. We just need to know that if we have our families and friends and reasonably good health, we are indeed blessed.

    Great write!

You could have hubby watch your favorite tv shows for you. I think you’re on the right track. I believe you know that discontent is the penalty we pay for being ungrateful for what we have. You do write great poetry.

  • LoveDoctorLoveGoodBye on Nov 18, 2009

I love this poem. Great job. It’s great that you do get a chance to exercise despite your busy schedule. Even walking around the park for 20 minutes is a big stress releasor.

I hate housework too, but since I don’t have anyone living with me I can get away with ignoring it until it starts to get on my nerves. I would write before doing these mundane boring tasks, but I find sometimes that having them facing me keeps me from writing because it is too depressing. I can only get out and away from it for so long. When I do force myself to do something about my mess I feel better and I am able to write better too.

  • Ruby Hawk on Nov 18, 2009

Christine, I feel the same way. I’m retired and I should have time for all my hobbies and everything I want to do but by the time I cook, clean, walk and shop my time is used up. I have to rush to get on the computer to do my writing and I never have time for quilting and painting anymore. I just don’t have enough time in the day. But as you say, I am blessed.

That was so touching and honest. Yes, god wants us to be appreciative of what we have because He always gives us abundant blessings.

Wow, I have to agree with you. I always thought once our children were grown and out of the house we would have tons of time. Well that was before we started ballroom dancing. If you remember my recent rant I am having problems finding time for everything I want to do. Sorry have to go we dance at seven.

  • deep blue on Nov 19, 2009

Nice poetry. You’re indeed blessed , Christine.

  • Hazel Crowther on Nov 20, 2009

You are allowed some ‘ME’ time, and a good old moan is good, It really does make you appreciate what you’ve got, and makes you want to give more. You are a star.

  • Agnes Chin on Nov 20, 2009

It’s good to be retired and healthy, to do the things that you like and meet up with friends whenever you can, time is never enough for all of us, nice if we have 48 hours a day, more time for us to do the things that we wanted to..

  • PhoenixRox on Nov 21, 2009

An excellent piece. You sound like my mum. No matter how early she wakes up, she always says she has to time. I hope you both get the ‘you’ time soon.;)

Such an enjoyable read. Your writing is never boring and always relate able.

  • Marie Antoinette on Dec 4, 2009

I am not retired but find that time flies and there are not enough hours. I have been practicing mindfulness (focusing on enjoying every minute of a task – whatever i am doing at a particular moment) and it seems to work for me. It makes me feel more happy and accomplished. I used to be the queen of multitasking but that left me feeling “undone” and now I am learning to appreciate every minute. Your poem says it all, so well and clear.

  • mark ramsay on Dec 4, 2009

You always seem to be rushing around. You need to prioritize.
    Loved the poem

  • CutestPrincess on Dec 8, 2009
