I wrote this a couple of weeks ago when we were stuck indoors during bad weather.

I’m stuck indoors and it’s blowing a gale.
The rain’s coming down and turning to hail.
I’m bored to tears and I need fresh air,
To run in the breeze and throw off all care.

Temperatures are tumbling, there’s ice on the ground.
Bright sunny skies are nowhere to be found.
But I put on my coat and I run to the sea.
The wind drives me onward, I’m totally free.

I stand on the beach. My arms reach above.
The salt’s wet on my face which I always love.
Watching the waves crashing down on the shore,
And hearing seagulls cry over the ocean’s roar.

How lucky I am to be in this beautiful town
Living so close to nature, I rarely feel down.
There’s hardly ever a time when I’m unable to cope.
I thank God for giving me a life full of hope.

Having been brought up next to the sea, it will always clear my misery, the sounds and the smells even on a cold, miserable day can cheer the soul. I was with you on that beach!
We have just had a 2 day rainstorm here in Cyprus, we are very grateful for it, but I am happier when the sun is out. I loved the poem!

A wonderful poem, Christine! I’ve always lived with the ocean close by so being in Nebraska can certainly make a person feel landlocked!
The ocean has always been there for me in good times and in bad. You brought back some happy memories I had forgotton I had!
    Thank you!

This is such a good article. My children are grown up now and I know we made some of the mistakes you mention. I also found being a school teacher you had to be so careful to encourage children and show by example.

    Thanks for sharing
