Christmas presents around the Christmas tree are wrapped in silver and gold foil, ribbons and glitz, promising great gifts waiting to be revealed. One is out of place, a brown paper parcel, uninteresting, unwanted and unopened.

So many lovely presents
Beneath my Xmas tree,
Those decorated boxes
Gifts chosen just for me;
Socks and soap and handkerchiefs
In varying amounts,
I appreciate each one
‘It is the thought that counts’.
They may be cheap and cheerful,
But they’ve been wrapped with care
And lots of festive trimmings
That shine and shimmer there.
One year I had a present,
Which seemed to me quite odd -
Wrapped up in plain brown paper
And labelled “Love from God”.
It didn’t look exciting,
I put it out of sight
Behind the proper boxes
Reflecting candle light.
I took it to down to Oxfam
Soon after Xmas Day
‘Unwanted Xmas present’
Was all I had to say.
So many lovely presents,
But they are much the same,
No unexpected boxes
That bear my Maker’s name;
Sometimes I wonder whether
I should have looked to see
What that special present was
God sent with love to me.
The Gift of God is eternal life – Romans 6.23
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that
everyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3.16

    That was wonderful. I don’t know if I could have resisted. I think I would have opened it first. A very heart warming poem and thought provoking poem.

    Take care
