Some things grow more graceful with age and to me this is one of them. A well maintained Victorian mansion can be the backdrop to many love stories past and present. This is my take on the dream house I will never own and thats ok.At least I can weave a romantic spell around the dream house in my mind.I just weaved my own take on this beautiful house and the couple that was soon to be wed.

It stands as a testament to the Victorian era,

an old historic mansion of centuries gone by.

Its shutters needs repaired and needs painted,

but still manages to maintain its regal glory.

***

Wander with me through its spacious rooms,

take notice of the sunlight in the windows.

The thin lacy curtains provides no barrier.

some say that they came with the mansion.

****

Come sit with me in the sun light parlour,

the old Victrola will play us some music.

Tell me once again about our life together,

we can fill these rooms with many children,

****

Up winding stairs is several huge bedrooms,

each has a spacious bed and cotton sheets.

We can explore them after we are married,

only then can you teach me the ways of love.

****

I can write you love letters in my sitting room.

sitting at the ancient desk like my mother did.

Or invite both our families to a  Sunday brunch,

watch our children play on our big  green lawns.

****

Sit on our porch swing as the sun has faded,

giving way to a cool evening for us to enjoy.

Its a bit cooler so I go get my old wool shawl,

together we can sit here watching the stars.

****

Grow old together as we watch life go by,

one by one our children quickly grow up.

Plan  a wedding for our daughters someday,

our grandchildren can run through the huge

mansion

****

Someday me and you will be long deceased,

our happy home will be passed on once again.

Each generation will add to its long history,

one day it might even be considered historic.

****

But at the present time it will become our home,

for the wedding I have longed for is days away.

History can do what it wants when its their turn,

but for now its just me, you and our future together.

A wonderful poem, full of memories. I used to live in a huge old victorian house when I was a child. I really loved it.

    Lovely!
I always liked the idea of an old-fashioned house. I even decorated my room to this kind of theme, although it still needs a bit of work, haha. But you can’t find that kind of romantic setting with modern art!
