Beth stood in Deer Park enthralled by a deer. She did not know that there was a hunter close by that was pursuing him for dinner.

Beth stood in Deer Park

Watching a deer go by

And wondering why

He didn’t come close by

- – -

He was a lovely deer

With white antlers

Flanked by trees

That provided

For quite a camouflage

- – -

Becoming thirsty

She knelt beside a pond

To take sips from the running stream

- – -

It was then she realized

That the deer had fled for dear life

For there was a hunter on his trail

That seemed to be out of sight

- – -

Looking up, there she saw

What was

Someone wrestling with this deer

Which was struggling

For its dear life

- – -

“Dear, oh dear,” she cried

“That deer is my delight”

The hunter smiled

Brushing her aside, saying

“It’s dinner for me tonight”
