Mama’s cooking good food and she’s in a good mood…

No one’s allowed in the kitchen when she’s cooking her soul food.
Sweat pops off mama’s forehead as she stands over the hot stove.
Early morning, mom is in the kitchen cooking in her house shoes and robe.
The aroma from the kitchen makes your mouth water and your stomach growl.
When mama’s in the kitchen, no one else cooks because that’s not her style.
The minute we hear dinner’s served, we run to take our seats.
Our plates run over and our stomachs hurt after we eat.
Mama made sure we ate everyday and everything was always good.
Don’t bother mama when she’s in the kitchen cooking her soul food.
Thanks mama for all the good meals over the years.
I’ll never forget the good times at the table as a family as we laughed and burst into tears.

    Hi!
I love your poem. It’s very nice. It brings back warm memories of early years with my mother. She use to keep my three children while I worked as a secretary years ago. One of my children’s most cherished memories is when she would prepare dinner for them. She would come out in the yard and ring what they called a “cow bell”. They would drop whatever they were doing and run to the house to eat their grandma’s “good ole cooking.” The neighbors became so accustomed to hearing the ringing of the bell, it also got their attention and they would yell to the children, “Dinner’s ready!” (smile)

Love your poem– looking forward to reading more.

    God bless!
