What will you do with your Income Tax Refund?

With my Income Tax Refund
What will I do?
Will I buy a new wardrobe
And a new pair of shoes?
Will I buy games
And lots of toys
For my girl
And my boys?
Will buy a new dishwasher
Or anything new?
I’ll tell you exactly
What I’m going to do
I’m going to cash the check
And put the money away
Not at bank, I can’t even
Trust them now days
With our economy
In this condition
It doesn’t really matter
For what I’m wishing
Tucked safely away
The money will be
So I can continue to
Pay my bills monthly!

Most of ours will go into an emergency fund.

  • Kate Smedley on Feb 9, 2009

If only I had one! Amusing and unusual.

  • M Stokes on Feb 9, 2009

Thanks for your replies, Darla and Kate :)

Darla, yeah that is a great idea. With this economy, no telling how many people will lose jobs, receive pay cuts, etc., and need it later to pay their house and car notes.

Kate, I know what you mean, not everyone gets refunds :(

We are using ours to pay off some debt to reduce our monthly costs. Our goal is to begin living on half of what we live on now so that if/when one of us is out of work we can still make due.

    Great poem!

  • M Stokes on Feb 9, 2009

Hi Denise, great plan. I think many people are worried about how they will make it this year.

I don’t recall seeing you before, I am going to check out your profile page now :)

    Thanks for the comment!

  • Anna Ski on Feb 9, 2009

I just got my tax refund and it’s all gone.

The economy is affected down here Australia, Sydney as well.

Pay this bill, kids clothes, entertainment for the kids, movies,
nintendo games, groceries, supplies etc.,. Where did it all go???
    OMG.

At least I paid the essentials but there are more bills now, eductaion for the kids and school uniforms.

It’s like doing house chores, dominoe effect.

Enjoy it while you have it. Even if the economy turns around, which may be awhile, gas will go straight up again.

  • M Stokes on Feb 9, 2009

Hi Jake and Westbrook, thanks for your comments! :)

I know what you mean, I had written an article on gas prices a few weeks ago. I dread when they go back up!

  • Johnny Yuma on Feb 10, 2009

I don\’t expect to get one at all this year and if we do it will probably go on doctor bills, as we have had some unexepected ones to crop up lately.

    Great writing M Stokes.

    Dear Ms. Stokes,
I am not sure if you are a single mom or not, but my daughter is. I feel your struggle and distrust in banks and probably some other institutes, especially other big business and various government agencies. I wrote a piece titled, “The Cost of Lobbyiest” that address the pain that many Americans are feeling. When we have a president, senate and congress that seems to be so out of touch with those of us who struggle on incomes well below the $250,000 that the media and many in Washington make we are the ones to pay. Eggs in Greenville, South Carolina went from .79 per dozen to over two dollars per dozen. However when consumers like ourselves refuse to pay such inflated prices they get the message. I hope all goes well for you and the children.

What a cool poem. I figure it would be hard to make a poem with the tax subject. It shows you are very talented.
