This is what a typical child’s backpack might contain.

Papers due
And papers late
Pencils, pens, erasers.
Leftovers from the lunch I ate
Wrinkled clothes and sneakers.
Many things go missing
Day by day by day.
And If you have the courage to ask
This is what I’ll say:
I have no idea
Why everything disappears
I put the stuff in my backpack
And the next day it is clear.
Everything is gone
But it still weighs a ton
There is nothing to be found
And all I can do is frown.
So I guess the time has come
The time of great despair
I’m going to have to clean out my backpack
This is going to give me a scare!
