Insidious
–adjective
1. intended to entrap or beguile (influence by trickery, flattery, etc.; mislead)
2. stealthily treacherous or deceitful
3. operating or proceeding in an inconspicuous or seemingly harmless way but actually with grave effect.

As beguiling as the serpent in Eden you came
Every phrase, carefully chosen
You knew what I needed to hear
Luring me into your nest
With sweet words and assurances
About how much you cared
I was the woman of your dreams
How you loved me, you swore
As I surrendered my heart and soul
Later to hand over my checkbook
To support you in a lifestyle
You could not afford
Having me trapped in your coils
You squeezed until I was gasping
For breath my reserves depleted
At last I saw the forked tongue
Just before you slithered away
Taking my pride with you
How foolish I felt as you moved on
To your next feeding ground
A younger version of myself
She seems, but I know her well
She is more cunning than you
And a fearless hunter of men
Leaving her own lifeless victims
Along a trail of molted skin
