Inspiration is but a drifter, can’t stay in one place for long…

Forever traveling, forever moving
Never feeling quite at home

Takes up space in the human soul
Feeds off talent and drive
Starts to thrive when a human host is obsessed

Nevertheless it comes and goes as it pleases
Can’t be tied down or held back
Sense of time it lacks, doesn’t know when to get up or go to sleep

Inspiration doesn’t knock on the door, doesn’t ring the bell
Just comes right in and only a fool wouldn’t welcome it

After all:

It collaborates well with every artist, and always creates a masterpiece
But never disputes with anyone over royalties

When inspiration comes it could stay for a day, a week or even longer
It’s not how long it stays; it’s what you make of the time
It won’t ask you for a dime, but just might make you wealthy
So when it’s there you oughtta take advantage of its presence

Ride with it:
Go where it’s taking you
Because inspiration is also a navigator

It may take you off the path, but never in the wrong direction
It may move you closer to perfection, and give protection from mediocrity
Wisdom beyond Socrates
And depth beyond mention
Beyond comprehension of many scholars
It made Brother Marvin want to holler
Turned Stevie’s Innervisions into outervibes played in the key of life
Left a dreadlocked Rasta named Bob “Jammin” to a song of freedom
Took India on a voyage to herself, while making Jill feel Beautifully Human
It helped Marianne face her deepest fear
Whispered the Secret of Joy into Alice’s ear all the while jazzin it up for Toni
Helped Terri exhale until she got her groove back
And put a Revelation in Alvin’s dancing spirit

It put thunder in Ali’s mouth, and lightning in his hands.

Inspiration went to the mountaintop with Martin, to Mecca with Malcolm and marched with a million men on Atonement day.
It cruised the Black Star with Marcus, followed the North Star with Harriett and made a Shining Star out of Earth Wind & Fire

Inspiration also wrote this poem of course, and the writing has yet to stop
It ever grows like a forest fire, so as long as I’m inspired and far from tired
The writing will never cease

Inspiration can be found in all places, and all things
Best of all it can also be found within oneself

So my question to you is;

Can you find it inside of yourself and go where it’s taking you?
