Being a gymnastics coach at one time I have really enjoyed the Gymnastics World Championships over the last week.

The gymnasts came from near and far

To show prowess on floor and bar,

To walk the beam with flair and grace

And meet all challenges that they faced.

*

The vaulters through the air did fly,

Their twists and somersaults brave and high.

And on the bars we watched in awe

At releases and catches that we saw.

*

The power harnessed in every skill

Gave each spectator such a thrill,

As pommels, parallel bars and rings

Brought forth the most amazing swings.

*

Tiny girls defied the beam

Determined to support their teams.

On a four inch strip of wood they’d flick

And make us gasp with every trick.

*

Yes, brave routines of highest class

Performed by gymnasts in each pass,

Gave winners the medals they desired

And left spectators so inspired.

Christine, I love to watch them myself. As a young girl I loved the balance beam with a beat board mount but the floor exercise routine was my favorite. I just loved the music, must be why I am a ballroom dancer today. Loved the poem.
