Written after the end of a confusing overwhelmingly abusive relationship with a man with narcissistic personality disorder.

Your flowery poems
are long forgot
Your sappy videos
Mean jack squat
You wanted attention
attention you got
You say it was love
But love it was not

You could care less
when my heart was wrought
When battles I faced
Alone I fought
It was all about you
And the prize you caught
A possession, obsession
But love it was not!

A captive audience
was what you sought
couldn’t do one thing
without the whole lot
Not a moment was sacred
Privacy couldn’t be bought
I became a stage prop
Humiliation nonstop

And my feelings were merely
an insignificant dot
on the map of your plans
and grandiose plots.
To prove yourself right
all kindness was lost
You say it was love
But love it was not!

And now you go on
moaning in your cot
crying to your audience
how you might as well rot
I should say I care less
But I really cannot
I just wish you could see
that love it was not.

I do wish you well
don’t be distraught
I hope you move on
and pain is forgot
live long and strong
take another shot
it may work next time
but love this was not

Love is selfless
and sacrifices what
it can for the other
and even cannot
Love is kind
and patiently sought
not frantically grasped
until wrung dry and dropped

I suggest a good shrink
and your monstrous ego shot
a little humbleness
perhaps to adopt
and the ability to listen
because really you ought
so your next try
won’t be such a flop

I wish you well
I’m sorry we fought
we were too different
so let this thing drop
Get out and live life
before your arteries clot
and please open your eyes
because love it was not
