A poem about a lingering unwanted connection between two people who’ve ended their relationship.

In the awakening of you beside me,
I saw nothing left to see.
We haven’t even been hanging onto what doesn’t work,
Or even remote possibility.
I said I didn’t want to see you again,
I just haven’t said it again in awhile.
Not since the night, I told you to leave,
And you did it with a smile.

Is it cruelty, or just all in fun,
Are you a pleasure, or pain?
It’s everything, but love,
And you’re such a turn off again.
Those wounds you wear are mine,
Neither of us wants to believe,
That having no part of anything of this,
Would be harder to do then just leave.
