A song about abuse and the effects it can have on a life.

Jacklyn was sixteen when he rolls, into town

She fell deep and fast

Thought she would drown

It didn’t take long, till he pushed her around

                      Chorus

Someone put Jack in a box, Jack in a box

Red nails, high heels

Do whatever he wants

Someone put Jack in a box, Jack in a box

Ain’t no child’s game, when he slides the key in the locks

Jacklyn cooked and cleaned, she never stepped out of line

Endured the pain

And the shame

Always three steps behind

Told herself everyday she wouldn’t take it next time

                       Chorus

Someone put Jack in a box, Jack in a box

Red nails, high heels

Do whatever he wants

Someone put Jack in a box, Jack in a box

Ain’t no child’s game, when he slides the key in the locks

The next time came too soon, she couldn’t take it no more

Thought “I’m gonna make it this time” when her hand hit the door

Felt the pain

Heard the shot

Seen her blood on the floor

                           Chorus

Someone put Jack in a box, Jack in a box

Red nails, high heels

Do whatever he wants

Someone put Jack in a box, Jack in a box

Ain’t no child’s game, when he slides the key in the locks

Jacklyn was nineteen when he rolled out of town

Handcuffed, backseat

Can’t push no one around

Jacklyn is free, can’t you see

Her family standing around

Bells are ringing, choir singing

Lower the  box in the ground

                     Chorus

No one can put Jack in a box, Jack in a box

No fear, no pain

No closed doors with big locks

No one can put Jack in a box, Jack in a box

White dress

Silver wings

Fly where ever she wants….

I can almost put a tune to it…. An old subject, but presented very nicely.

This piece hits the nail exactly on the head. Powerful, poignant, beautifully done, sir.

Much too true. Very well expressed.

Great job, Anita! You gave it a uniqueness that is your own and that is one of the hardest things to do when writing on these issues because they are so common. Have you put music to it yet? Or are you the type that finds the tune first, or as you go?

Thanks for sharing, and have a good one.

Great cadence, I enjoyed it thoroughly. I know it\\\’s not a topic any jokes should be made about but when I first landed on it I thought it was going to be an article about the fast food restaurant. I liked your song/poem much better though. Keep up the great work!

    just LOVELY

    Some run to live
    To fight another day,
    Some do
    Sheer cowardice display

    In the battlefield
    If you run away
    Bullets will trace you
    Either way
    Unless the master says
    Now let’s withdraw,
    Do not run
    It’ll never really pay.

    Life and death are
    Two faces of a coin
    Which is cast?
    Ahead of time
    None but
    That Almighty can say,
    My dearest friend
    Never ever think
    Of escaping life’s way
