This poem was written about my country of birth “Jamaica”. It is included in my book “Endless Visions” published June 2009.
Jamaica, Jamaica, my beautiful native land;
The Blue Mountains, botanical gardens, and white sand,
A land of wood and water, a beauty to behold;
Surrounded by the Caribbean Sea, her beauty unfolds.
Dunn’s River Falls, a tourist attraction;
A hike to Blue Mountains, gives a hiker sheer satisfaction,
Rafting on the Rio Grande, what a pleasure;
Port Royal reminds us of the country’s rich, historical treasure.
White Rum straight, or on the rocks;
Ackee, and salt fish, the national dish,
The Blackbird, the national bird,
The Blue Mahoe, the national tree
All symbols of our national unity.
The motto “Out of many one people”
Signifies “Unity among many cultures and races”
A people of all races living side by side;
All joining together to build one great nation.
The National flag, Black, Green and Gold;
Black represents the strength and creativity of the people,
Green represents hope and agricultural resources;
Gold represents the national wealth and beauty of the sunlight.
The home of the late Robert (Bob) Nesta Marley
A pioneer, and trail blazer, for reggae music on the world scene
Shaggy, Beenie Man, Buju Banton, Sean Paul to name a few;
Continue to mesmerize the world with the reggae theme.
Jamaica the film maker’s ideal setting;
Cocktail starring Tom Cruise, a famous one,
The Harder they come starring Jimmy Cliff, our local son;
Jamaica’s natural beauty is, truly a phenomenon.
Bauxite and alumina, bananas, and flowers to name a few;
Exported to the Caribbean and the international community too,
Tourism is the largest foreign exchange earner,
A refection of the world class service we deliver.
The Rastafarian Movement, founded in Jamaica;
The late Haile Selassie of Ethiopia, the Supreme leader,
A culture that as captivated millions around the world,
The late Bob Marley was the modern day icon.
Last but not least, is our National Anthem.
Eternal Father bless our land
Jamaica Land We Love;
“Jamaica, Jamaica, Jamaica, Land We Love”
