Joey was a young Christian boy who was terminally ill when this was written in 2006. A large group of poets were asked to each write an inspirational poem entitled "Joey’s Day". The works were all printed and brought to the boy in his hospital room. This work was my contribution.

There is a boy in my life,
That I wouldn’t trade for gold.
He’s twelve today and still sometimes,
His hand I love to hold.

I don’t know what I would do right now,
If someone said that he was ill.
I think that it would break my heart,
That disease I’d want to kill.

I think that I would tell him,
We love him and we always will,
And if his health it were a mountain,
We’d help him to climb that hill.

And throw the demon to the dungeon,
Lock the door and toss the key.
And let the power of light and love,
Teach him to believe.

That he can beat the sickness,
And he can get through anything,
With the love of those around him,
As the spirit of the angels sing.

I know that God would save him,
And answer all of our prayers,
Because He loves and keeps us,
And most of all, He cares.
