Journey Home
Boredom, they said was the sin of this age,
Deadly, far worse than the fires of hell.
Clearly, I was a sinner, I mused, for boredom
became kin, knit so close together soon
becoming my twin. My generation is replete
with sinners, red, blue, black, white and yellow.
For there is nothing that holds or draws us
inspired or intrigued to follow. It’s just boredom
all the way. Zigzag we go, like a snake on a
wild chase, round and round like a top,
spinning, never leaving its place.
Stop. Think. Ponder.
If only for a moment.
At the risk of sounding like a holy
pontificator, I proffer.
Instead of seeking lifeless wonders,
with thoughts and deeds largely lackluster,
consider instead to navigate your inner world
and explore the nuggets of gold hidden
deep within the soul. All we need is solace
and contemplation, that which at first seem lonely,
far and distant. But, with perseverance and
diligence can be found within the folds of many
delicate and unique moments.
So, I forged a way,
through meditation and prayer.
Sinking deep within myself one day,
I discovered a lake, clear, crimson,
ruby red in color.
Not a ripple I could see for
miles and miles and everything around
seemed as though exactly in place.
Silence was serene, but loud and distracting.
Thoughts invaded eagerly,
summarily dismissed
without misgiving.
Undaunted, I surged forth,
exhaustively exploring the
intricacies of my soul.
Unfinished as yet, my travels seem endlessly so.
With practice, determination and a measured pace,
I am slowly finding my way back to a place
I once called my home.
