Journey to nowhere
written May 25, 1999.
White men drove them from their homeland
where they lived in joy and peace
into perils few could withstand
as they watched their tribes descend
All along the journey westward
they lost many to disease.
Trudging on ,
their sore feet restored
in the distant chilling breeze.
Baby voices still remind them
of the graves along the way;
mothers,
father left behind them
under sun baked mounds of clay.
Finally the reservation…
soon a single sign appears
leading to a destination-
a lot of white men call it a “Trail of Tears.”
