A narrative poem exploring a fictitious character at the pearly gates.
Here someone helped you, saved you,
But your gratitude was gone the same day;
Then when he came and asked a favour;
You said, “Alright, but first you must pay.”
It seemed there was no full or half time;
Life: an endless journey in a one-man boat.
Paddling away, swamping all others,
Leaving destruction, and I quote.
Your game progressed through thick and thin;
You found yourself losing if you rested.
Never sleeping you reached for the top-
And grabbing like an eagle, you nested.
You had no time for love or kindness,
That was just, “A pain in the neck,”
Yet for others it was a blessing from here-
But you did not need it to stay on deck.
Of the boat of life, that stops you drowning-
As you travel the waters of strife.
The Antarctic now is where you dwell,
But the albatross is afar, fearing your knife.
