A poem about how real dreams can seem.

It was just a fancy then?
I did not waste a day on that hill?
My imagination did but run?
Such relief you have brought me, love.

Forgive the words I said before.
Unbeknownst to me
I was lying.
Your honesty has saved my soul.
I will not speak of these things again.

No longer will I waste my time
Remembering a life that was not mine
Locked away by one disgraced
Lost forever in that place.

And I hear their voices still
Praying, “Someone come for me.”
Feeling the coldness in my heart
Hating too many to impart.

Oh no!
I’ve done it again!
Damn these fantasies in my head!
After all the good you’ve done
I nearly spoiled it all at once.

Will you give me one last chance?
I will prove I was worth the work.
My mind will stop spewing out these thoughts
(Or I’ll keep them to myself)
I swear you won’t hear another word.
