“O Lord, how great are Thy works!”
Psalm 92:5
In memory of Ileana Lucia Adolfo Aseoche.
Before I leave this world of thine,
Lord, grant me just a little time
To write a line – or maybe two –
About the wondrous works of You.
The glory of the heavens high,
The sun, moon, stars, up in the sky,
The beauty of the graceful trees
That sway in rhythm to the breeze;
The mountains, rivers, lakes and all
The canyons and grand waterfalls –
Each of these sing out to me
Of Thy might and majesty.
Each budding leaf and op’ning flow’r
Each minute that makes up an hour,
Holds some new wondrous mystery
For my beholding eyes to see!
The gift of life which Thou hast giv’n
To each and every creature – e’en
The lowly worm that crawls the earth
Has known the wonderment of birth!
And I thank Thee, Lord, for this – my life –
With its own share of bliss and strife.
I thank Thee for the world I’ve known,
And for the wonders that to me were shown.
There is so much more yet to say,
But now fast ebbs life’s closing day,
And ere my eyes shall close in sleep,
I pray Thee, Lord, my soul to keep.
And if Thou hear this pray’r of mine,
And take me to this Home of Thine,
Then shall my eyes more blessed be –
Behold Thee in unity!
