Poetry on coping, illness, hope.
Just Lay Down
I awoke today and felt just fine.
By noon, however, it was time
To just lay down.
I find I’m tired all the time
My hurts won’t heal
So I just lay down.
Once again by mid-afternoon
I am so tired I could swoon,
So I just lay down.
Today to the doctor
Tomorrow the morgue
I need to lay down.
Why don’t I feel it?
Why don’t I care?
Why do I just want to lay there?
This illness it seems
Has taken extremes
My rest is all I need
How can I tell those
Others I love
That death’s claiming at full speed?
I went to sleep
And sleep I did
Until the morning sun
But,
I awoke today and felt just fine.
By noon, however, it was time
To just lay down.
