Just a little humor regarding apartment life with some unusual roommates.

We were newlywed, and money was tight
To share the rent would help out alright
A two bedroom apartment at the top of the stairs
Lannie and Roach they joined us there

As you will learn– they’re quite a pair

Lannie was quiet, not too much trouble
Doing his yoga he’d bend almost double
No beef or pork would touch his plate
But of pie and cookies, plenty he ate

He never disturbed us when coming in late

But Roach, now there’s a different story
He caused the landlord a bit of worry
He tended to slobber quite a bit
And into the bathroom, he didn’t quite fit

Did I give you a clue to his identity yet?

Lannie and Roach they shared one room
Long hair on both needed a comb
Buddies they were and everywhere went
His money on Roach each penny was spent

Roach never helped–  in paying the rent

Lannie laid papers out across the floor
From wall to wall and door to door
He was sure he could train him to go right there
He didn’t want to drag him down those stairs

Roach, you see– was as big as a bear

A Saint Bernard, yes, and not just a pup
He filled the whole room when he stood up
But peeing on papers he just didn’t get
Nor blowing out matches when they were lit

We told Lannie– he had to quit

We loved his dog, he was as sweet as could be
But on the carpet he tended to pee
The landlord wasn’t happy, we needed to go
Find a new home before it would snow

But to roommates this time–

WE JUST SAID– NO!

Poor Roach. I wonder why people still consider St Bernards as cute breed of dogs. Anyway naming him Roach does make him cute a bit.Wonderfully, creatively, perfectly written poem.

Great poem, aptly describing an awkward situation and its unfortunate results. You get an A+.

    Very lovely poem.
On the sidelines, I love dogs. I have two in fact, Argos and Hera. Borth are now in their mating ages and they are deepli in love with each other. Its me that keeps them from “goin steady”, until I said both would eventually have jobs already, lol..
    Shalom..

And I thought you were talking about people– Lannie the provider and roach–the leech–what is thsi dog stuuf they are talking about? okay! I admit–the prefect split! Good writing!
Feel soory for the dogs though! Hope they found another loving home! And, it goes to say–a little bit of home training–can go a long way–do you know what I mean? Cool!
