No matter where you go or what you’re doing, if a kitty lives in your home there’s a good chance that you have more than one shadow tagging along after you!

Whenever I go to the cellar to do

a chore…or to bring up the clothes

my shadow’s not black;

and may not be in back

of my slippers, my shoes, or my toes!

My shadow is patchy which seems very strange

but what’s stranger than this, I suppose,

is the way it rejoices

by making small noises

whenever it finds string or hose!

My shadow has feet that are prancy and quick

plus a tail, two small ears, and pink nose.

It can hide around corners

and jump out of boxes!

It doesn’t look like me, Lord knows!

My shadow can lounge on a rug  or a chair…

or jump in a window to see

just what they are doing

next door while I’m cooking.

(My shadow is nosier than me!)

My shadow can run while I’m still walking slowly.

My shadow can jump oh so high!

My shadow will leap

at the crawlies that creep,

and my shadow still likes to chase flies!!

My shadow can cause me to trip and to cuss

as I’m walking the halls or the stairs..

But at night It is best

at helping me rest

by sleeping with paws in my hair!!

That is so lovely. I can just imagine those kitties of your following you everywhere you go. Great work.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one lovely topic and a great flow, could just see it all in my minds eye, thanks.

I can so relate to this one! I love the way you describe kitty antics, and how it comes down to the evening cuddle.

Hi Christine! Yup…these little darlings have actually made me trip a bit while going UP the stairs because they’ll suddenly get it into their heads to STOP and WAIT for a PAT!! :) With my head down so much, others must think I’m always looking for money on the ground when, in reality, the kitties have ‘trained’ me to look out for their whereabouts!!! :)

Hi Brianberu! I’m so glad you like cats, too! Dogs seem to like almost anyone who pays them any attention while I think it takes a special kind of person to ‘connect’ with a cat because THEY are the ones who decide if someone is worthy of their attention or not…not us!!! :)

Hi Daisy! Yes…that nighttime cuddle says it all, doesn’t it! I just have to get to the bed first in order to claim my spot before they do! :)

I was a cat owner for years – but my other half is not keen and I miss their antics. I have a naughty little black dog instead. Your poem really captures the essence of a cats spirit x fantastic stuff x
