A poem about island life in the South Pacific.
Sandy white beaches
sprawled out before the green thatched hut
woven mats on the ground
greeted the three-member family each day.
Daily sustenance of coconuts, pineapples
mango and fish with occasional wild boar
feasted on before a perfect half circle
of torch lights dancing under the moon
with the scent of orchids filling the air.
Kahunas guide our every breath on the island
Lono keeping us safe as we swim in tropical waters
Malama the mother of us all
Pele gracing every volcano
as they dance
we dance
around the fire
on the beach every night
before we fall asleep
listening to the jumping fish
by the shore.
