I spent many days exploring the woods and countryside which surrounded my home along with my Beagle Lassie.
The photo is of myself and Lassie and I am holding a silver cup which I won by writing in school a story ion the subject “Kindness To Animals”.
This was a first prize out of the whole of our county Cardiganshire;Wales.A kind neighbour took this photo.
I learnt from a very young age that a dog is indeed a “man”s best friend’.

Quivering and beautiful

Oh how I loved her;

My treasured Beagle Lassie

My dear sweet wonder.

We grew up together

She licked away my tears

I hugged her so precious

Forgetting my fears.

That littler of puppies

The best Mum in the world

She caressed and licked

Into her they snugly curled.

I learnt a great lesson

As I watched in sweet wonder

Through her I learnt

How to be a true mother.

Today she is here with me

We are never apart

I keep each precious memory

Sweet and safe in my heart.

Myself and Lassie.

Eddy, I like it!
The rhyme scheme is very effective the way it’s ABCB in all your stanzas, except the last where everything comes together, Lassie’s memory stays with you, and the pattern becomes ABAB. It’s a clever poem written confidently by a photogenic, prescient girl and her prescient beagle.
