A poem about how quickly childhood passes.

You ask if as a child
I had dreams
Things that I aspired to do
Such a question brings much to mind
And I will share with you
When I was young I wished to fly
Like an eagle soar
I wanted to grow up so fast
And be a child no more
In the dark of night
I looked up
At the starry sky
And wished and wished upon each one
That time would fly right by
In my youth I yearned to live
Completely on my own
To answer to no one but me
And be left alone
Now that I am grown
And I can see
How quickly youth does pass
If I could do it all again
I would dream that youth would last
