Poem about a man alone in his golden years, and waiting for his wife to return so he’d leave all the lights on.

He prayed every night to the one above,

that she would come back home,

she was his only true love,

now he sat here all alone…

Their three kids have grown,

from the nest they have flown,

they have kids of their own,

now his life is unknown….

Sitting alone in his big house,

wished anybody would come,

would welcome a mouse,

even a cockroach or two would be fun….

Left every light in the house on,

from dusk to the break of dawn,

hoping she would return,

for her his heart yearned….

She left on the midnight hour,

they slowly carried her out the door,

she had lost the will and power,

couldn’t take it any more….

The doctors tried their best,

with all their science and skill,

said she needs to rest,

she laid critically ill….

He sat by her bedside,

for many nights and days,

how he cried and cried,

as she slowly passed away….

Couldn’t believe she was gone,

still waiting for her to come home,

she would never leave him alone,

he’d always leave all the lights on……..end
