Leave Him Now a poem by Jennifer Jo Fay. A poem about physical abuse to women and why they won’t leave their men.
Leave Him Now
He loves me,
he loves me not.
He loves me,
but to be truthful
he’s showing you love
in the wrong kind of way.
It must really make you question
his sweet love for his honey.
What are you still there?
Why don’t you leave?
How can you stay?
What justifies a man
who does that to his wife, girlfriend or lover?
How can you love a man
who treats you so badly?
Can’t you see the bruises on your face?
Does your body hurt?
Day after day, month after month,
years and years?
Why must you wait?
He’s thrown you on the floor,
beaten you to a pulp,
battered and bruised,
torn and shattered,
thrown his favorite ragdoll
around not caring in the least
how you feel.
Throws verbal words at you too.
What makes you think he will change?
The dead horse won’t alter himself
to please you.
He’s a terrible man
who must be stopped.
You can make that happen,
tell him to leave.
Pack his bags
and don’t return.
Call the cops and get him gone.
You don’t need him,
he’s no good.
How can you still love him
through all that?
Are your eyes blind
to what he is doing to you?
He won’t stop until he’s won
the day,
he buries you dead
in a shallow grave.
And only because
you let him do it
and you didn’t stand on
you own two feet
and listen to your mind.
You silently told him
It’s okay
because I love you still
and keep on beating me,
because I want to die.
