It can be as much fun as it is frustrating to try and rake up falling leaves in an autumn wind. The following is my take on such a venture. Read more…

Today I watched the trees applaud

the dancing of the leaves

doing their autumn contra-dance

to the songs of autumn’s breeze.

I watched them dancing ‘cross the ground

and along the river’s wind.

It seemed that they were keeping step

to autumn’s song in perfect time.

Some of them came dancing

the two-step ‘cross my lawn

calling me to join their fun

before the cold of winter dawns.

Some obliged my wishes

by gathering in piles

while others flew into the air,

seemed to fly up high for miles

and swooped back down to earth again

to join my leafy heaps,

while others laughed at me and played

and danced around my feet

as some swirled from the piles I’d made

and went dancing off again…

Oh what fun this day has been

while playing with leaves in the wind.

Loved it. Immortalizing a simple activity into a few lines.
