A poem on the pointlessness of poetry in general.
Forever is too short a time
A moment far too long
Silence can speak a thousand things
All of which can be wrong.
The right word given at the right time
Can fill your pockets or your bed
Wine bar quotes and catchy rhymes
Stale jokes best left unsaid.
The right word, in theory,
Should be one of command
To bid you to open your eyes.
Yet, sadly to say, I haven’t this word on hand
You’re reading this, why aren’t you surprised?
These words are flawed, at several removes
At best signposts, otherwise a smoke screen
Throw down this pulped matter, if you’re looking for truth
And just go where the grass seems most green.
