“Lemonilla” By Brian Lynn Bentley
A stormy day full of rain.
On the side of the stream.
A breathtaking day in 1918.
Staring into the trees.
Events roaring overseas.
So lonely you seemed.
In my mind I Deemed.
As I watched you move.
Along the path groove.
I turned to you and smiled.
You turned to me and smirked.
I looked into your eyes.
And they glistened in the rain.
My heart began to beat insane.
I stuttered my name out.
You stifled a shout.
As you returned he favor.
You said “Ice cream.”
And I said “What Flavor.”
Chuckled out “Lemonilla.”
I said “No such thing.”
And you whispered in my ear,
“There will be.”
As she said that,
Clouds framed and azure sky.
The rain went away.
The Breeze began to flow.
Her red hair waved in the wind.
We found a table in the shade.
She set her delicate fingers.
on my wrist. I inched closer.
“I was alone. But I can see.”
“I can see you’re the one. “
“You are the one .”
“I been looking for the whole time.”
“I dreamed of you in my mind.”
“I been dreaming of you all the time.”
“I knew you would come. I knew, I knew.”
“Even Before I knew, I knew you.”
I looked in her eyes with slight surprise.
Raised my brow. And spoke slow.
I said to her. under the shade tree.
“I knew you before you knew me.”
“I dreamed dreams of you. too.”
“I saw you long ago in my head.”
“Saved myself for someone I never knew.”
“But I knew it was true. When I saw you.”
“You lit up my life so divine.”
“My head felt like too much wine.”
She said;
”I knew you would know me.”
and I said;
” I knew you would know I knew too”
Now here we are 80 years later,
it all still holds true.
As we laid in Bed she said ;
“Lets go heaven awaits us.”
I said;
“After you heaven has a lot to hold up too,
just to be as close to happy as I am with you.
