LESS IS MORE, MORE OR LESS is an original poem about the contemplative nature of writing, specifically poetry. It meditates on the expansion and contraction involved in writing and re-writing, yielding to the fact that in the end, all romantic notions dreamt of in writing give way to the simplicity of communication.
How soon after I start this
will I come back to revise…
a word,
a phrase,
a comma,
a period?
Will the verse behave
and not betray
the rules of the game?
Treasures of
meaning,
wrapped in
simile, metaphor, and
allusion.
Folded into text like
origami.
Portals of imagery,
binoculars of song,
whose hummed tones
conjure destiny
to all who know
its melody.
Lofty ambition and
romanticized routine
eventually pay rent
to the landlord of
simplicity.
