This world seems headed for destruction by man’s own hand. I have one simple request…

Let Me Leave as I Slumber

When it’s time for me

To leave this world,

Let me leave

As I slumber.

Let me drift into

My afterlife

Peacefully

And unencumbered.

Don’t make your fight

For what is right

A part of my endeaver.

It’s time for you

To realize

We are all in this

Together.

Take a look

At what has emerged

From the fear you’ve held

Inside,

The destruction wrought

In the name of love

Just to serve your

Foolish pride.

Until we learn

To accept and share,

Humble ourselves

Show we care,

Recognize our world

As belonging to all;

We are doomed for extinction

Divided we will fall.

I’m not afraid of dying;

I just don’t want to be

Forced to leave

By the hands of men

So consumed by hate

and un-satiated greed.

When it’s time for me

To leave this world

Let me leave

As I slumber.

Let me drift into

My afterlife

Peacefully and

Unencumbered.

I’m reading this listening to Simon and Garfunkle’s homeward bound…I need a hanky now. Absolutely beautiful, and the best way to go when the time comes.

I feel the same way, I used to be afraid of death but I am not anymore.

Beautiful Poem. I think once you have accepted that one day or another it will be our turn, you ease up on the being afraid part, but as you say, “let me go as I slumber”, for why make us feel any more pain when it is time to say goodbye, as we have all had plenty of our shares of pain while wide awake in this world.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could all drift away unemcumbered. Very few are so blessed, but it’s something to wish for.Well done.

Lovely poem. It seems as if we are really heading toward our destruction. I, too, am not afraid of dying but not violently–just peacefully, knowing that I have done what I could to contribute whatever I could to the rest of humanity.
