This life is like a game of chess

I first move one piece

Then I get a response

And move the next piece

But I don’t cease

To think before I move that piece

Because I’m still young and naïve

I want to finish this game as fast as I can

So I move faster

Unaware that I am playing a grandmaster

And in one move, my game could shatter

But I feel a bit older now, a bit wiser

I don’t move as fast but my score is higher

I’ve played for so long

In parks with checkered boards

And everything black and white

No color in sight

Sometimes only one move to get out of check

Check; my king better hit the deck

Cuz it’s in danger, my eyes don’t detect

But now I feel a bit older, if you will, “badder”

Before I was playing snakes and ladders

Falling and sliding down, losing the game, but now

But now I’ve seen a new dawn

I’m no longer a pawn

But rather, now I’m a king

Moving one step at a time

Now using my mind

I could make or break, or checkmate you

In a matter of time

But no king ever survived

Without his rook, his bishops, his knights

That, for him, would lose their lives

When I’m in check it reminds me to use my other guys

And I still remember when I was a pawn

Looking up to the king

Think-king

If only to be one

But now my move is King to B1

As my angel writes my moves on this game’s record

And I realize that kings are also in checkers

But that’s another’s game

My life’s game is chess

I know some think they’re the best

They’re playing multiple games

But they forget the opponent is a grandmaster

So my advice to you is to gather, your thought

As you are going to need it

Make sure every move you make is strategic

And when it doubt, wait

Cuz you may be one move away from CHECKMATE!
