The old saying "Better to prevent than cure ‘is very appropriate to run in terms of maintaining health. But still many people who do not appreciate the health that have been obtained up to regret later when suffering from illness.

Currently approximately half of the people who died more rapidly than life expectancy is due to be caused by lifestyle factors. Lifestyles that adversely affect health include smoking, alcohol consumption, poor diet & lack of exercise.

Men are also more prone to experience the lifestyle diseases due to lifestyle factors such proximity with the daily activities of men. Factors such as smoking, many still think that it’s okay if a man smokes, even the habit has started since childhood. Though smoking is very harmful for health & have a negative effect on virtually every organ system. Likewise, other factors such as consumption of alcohol & stress.

Environmental problems such as water & air pollution is actually also contributed to the occurrence of the death rate that is faster than life expectancy. But still the dominant factor is the result of our own lifestyle. So although we can not avoid environmental pollution factor, we still can maintain health by changing our lifestyle to become healthier.

1. Smoking

    Tobacco smoking has a negative effect on almost the whole organ. Tobacco worldwide is estimated to cause 6 million deaths annually. Secondhand smoke is also dangerous for passive smokers, those who indirectly contributed to suck smoke from active smokers.

    Short term effects of smoking is a disturbance in the respiratory tract such as cough, fever, bronchitis, and pneumonia. While the long-term effects of smoking are numerous. There are several diseases associated with smoking such as cancer of the mouth, throat, lungs, stomach, kidney, bladder, and pancreas.

    About a third of cancer associated with smoking & 90% of lung cancer is also associated with smoking. Smoking reduces blood circulation & blood vessels to narrow, reducing blood oxygen levels & increase the risk of heart disease. Smoking also increases the risk of stroke, and cataracts.

How to Stop Smoking
Here are some ways that can be used to plan to quit smoking, namely:

Preparing

  • Make a list of reasons to quit smoking (such as for health reasons, save money, etc.)
  • Make a note of when started smoking & triggers
  • Find information about smoking cessation programs either through the website or bookMake a schedule when it will begin to quit smoking (it was rid of all the things associated with smoking, such as ashtrays, lighters, cigarettes, cigarette containers, etc.)

Find a support

     * Consultation to your healthcare provider about ways to quit smoking
     * Join a smoking cessation program
     * Join a support group to quit smoking
     * Ask for support also from friends and family about your plans
     * Make a note of what is felt during the process

Strategies to cope with stress or urge to smoke again

     * Try to learn yoga, meditation or breathing exercises
     * Consultation with health worker
     * If you need to be considered for use medication to stop smoking or nicotine replacement therapy

If it turns out you are still smoking again, do not despair. Focus on your intention to quit smoking. Set back your time to quit smoking again, remember that a lot of new people who successfully quit smoking after trying a few times.
