I live near so many of these and marvel at them always.

The noble lighthouse stands silently on the shore all alone
With the buoy nearby and the fog horn with its intermittent drone.
Fog rolls in with a slow but forceful might
Misleading the ships at dusk and into the night.
Flickering light warns of the land that is so near
Guiding the sailors and captains that constantly peer.
Landscaping around the dignified building on the point
Blend into the surroundings like muscles with a joint.
The keepers of the lighthouse, very well poised here
Welcome interested visitors each day, from year to year.

Many people often forget how important lighthouses are. This is a well rhymed reminder of that. Nice work as always! Michael

Well done in conveying the lightkeeper as a guardian of travellers.

I have never lived near a lighthouse, but I always wondered what is was like. Great piece!

My mom would love this poem. She has a huge interest in lighthouses and has visited several of them. I’ve never had a chance to see a lighthouse up close though.

The fact that ships and boats traveling through thick fog can see this beacon of light and give its sailors a pure feeling of relief is why I love lighthouses. Its easy to see how a simple tower can inspire such beautiful words from you. Very well written, I wish I was at that stage in my poetry writing but I guess it takes time and effort to make it look as easy as you do.

Wonderful piece. I love lighthouses. They always seem to steer us in the right direction

Lighthouses appear to lonely to me – watching and steering ships to shore all the while wanting to just steer someone to them.
