A poem about a few of the rough times I’ve faced recently.

Recently I’ve come to a place
Where smiling is the hardest task I face
I’ve lost interest in the things I love
All of which are a gift from above
The storms have continued to come in
The thunder rolls and takes away my grin
Rain pours down just like my tears
Lightning strikes life into my worst of fears
Just when I thought I was stable
I couldn’t even bring food to our table
As if that isn’t enough
Things continue to get rough
My heart is already pounding through my chest
Now I’ve seen four of my friends laid to rest
Death is not very far away
You’ll never know when it’s your day
But I’m still happy to say
My wife and unborn child are still alive today
While I was asleep, I got the scariest of calls
She was in an accident and I dropped my jaws
The cars were demolished, but here’s the catch
Everyone came out without a scratch
Losing my wife would be the worst burden to carry
Even thinking about it is so scary
But for now I’ll keep my head up high
As the problems of life will fly by
The next day will be new
And my sun will slowly come into view
