This was written for a class assignment for my Honors English Two class last year. A friend and I wrote a story, and this poem was written by me for a character in the story. I simply wrote the poem in HIS point of view. I was playing the role of Tyson, a boy taken and grown up in slave trade. He fell in love with this girl, his best friend, and got the chance to escape, but not without a promise; he will set her free.

There is nothing I wouldn’t do for you.
I’m not lying, cross my heart and hope to die.
Good hearts like yours come in few,
so ’til we meet again,
my dearest Lillian,
I will return for you.

Reach up into the skies,
and go beyond the stars.
I will never lose this fight,
not if you’re still there.
So ’til we meet again,
my dearest Lillian,
You won’t hear my cries.

You helped me when no one came,
and for that I owe you my everything,
in leaving you behind, I feel ashamed.
So ’til we meet again,
my dearest Lillian,
I am the one to blame.

We were so different, yet not at all,
when we met was a miracle,
I was all alone, left living to crawl.
So ’til we meet again,
my dearest Lillian,
I will never again let you fall.

Love and hate,
life and death,
tears and laughter,
control,
greed,
haven,
darkness,
light,
sanctuary,
loss…

Together we were everything, but again I am lost,
I will miss you, my beautiful angel.
I am not free, but at a great cost.
So ’til we meet again,
my sweet, sweet, Lillian,
I promise our paths will cross.

I do not lie, I will not lie,
so remember my promise,
I will keep it or die.
My love, my dear Lillian,
we shall meet again,
this is not our last good-bye.
