This is a story that I eventually want to turn into a children’s book with illustrations.

1

There was once a land

in a far away place.

It existed before our kind

knew of travel in space.

2

There were keepers of this land,

kind of like us.

They had faces like children,

but were the size of dust.

3

Their hearts were so pure,

No violence they knew

There were no gray clouds,

and the skies were always blue.

4

Since there was no rain,

their jobs were to bring life.

Each had their own job

to keep their world without strife.

5

There was one little sprite

Not like the rest.

She didn’t quite fit in,

and her heart ached in her chest.

6

Her wings were gold,

normal wings were clear.

Because she was different,

they trembled in fear.

7

She would cry and cry asking “Why?”

Why couldn’t she be like the others?

Oh Why?

Oh Why?

8

Her name was Lily

and her heart was so sad.

But she always had a smile on

just to pretend she was glad.

9

One day Lily took

a small stroll in the sky.

She got a little far from home

and then started to cry.

10

“No one likes me

or wants me around.

I’m going to keep flying

until I see new bounds.”

11

She flew and flew

until her little wings gave out.

She found herself in a new town

This was her new home, she had no doubt.

12

She walked into town

There she met many new sprites,

“How accepting they are,”

she said with much delight.

13

In the center of the town

a throne was so tall.

Sitting there was the queen,

her servants and all.

14

She looked at the queen

and couldn’t believe what she saw

The queen had gold wings

but wasn’t tormented at all!

15

She asked one of the sprites

About the queen’s golden wings.

The reply, “Who cares about her wings,

have you heard how she sings?”

16

After a few moments,

The queen stood to her feet

Everyone around her

Grew quiet and took seat.

17

Without any warning to the crowd,

The queen let out an incredible tune

A tune so beautiful that if it ever ended

It would end too soon.

18

Lily started to daydream

While hearing the queen’s song.

She imagined herself on a stage

But her dream didn’t last long.

19

Lost in thought

Lily lifted her voice

Her voice danced with the queen’s

And the whole town rejoiced!

20

Lily had the gift,

The same gift as the queen’s.

The queen looked at her in shock

And then commanded her to the scene.

21

Lily said, “I never knew

There was anything special about me.”

The queen smiled and said,

“Lily, you are a princess! Why can’t you see?”

22

“Go back to your village,

That’s where you belong.

Go back and sing

Then you will obtain your throne!”

23

“You are so very special

And everyone will know.

Because when you sing

All the forest will grow!”

24

The queen smiled as she ended

With a big, warm hug.

“I will always be here for you

Even for just a hug.”

25

Lily was so excited

She sang the whole journey home.

Bringing life to the world

That she had never known.

26

As she flew closer,

Her whole village heard her song.

They waited to greet her

Wishing that they had known all along.

27

They made Lily a throne

As gold as her wings.

There she sat

As they declared her as queen.
