How will it stop
No one knows

Some drivers and passengers
Toss cans, bottles, paper
Cardboard and cigarette butts
That litter our freeways

Many states have laws
On the books for littering
But because of the nature
Of these crimes
They are difficult to impose
And few persons
Are ever prosecuted

Don’t ever regard
This as a problem
With one group of people
For it cuts across racial
Ethnic and religious lines
And those that are rich or poor

Most young people
May litter for fun
Others may be lazy
To dispose their garbage properly

But it causes cities
Around the U.S.
Millions yearly
And additional manpower
To clean up this mess

We must realize
That these bad acts
May have far reaching
Consequences
That may endanger the lives
Of others
- – -
Cyclists and motor cyclists
Are most vulnerable
To broken glass, nails
And tacks
- – -
They may puncture tires
Causing them to spill
And even cause their demise
