This is an award winning poem from the Jerome Norgren 2008 Poetry Contest. I wrote it as a sophomore in high school because of my current interest in motorsport, specifically drift. I received 1st place out of more than 1500 writers in the state of South Dakota. It was one of six submissions to that contest.

Red.
Yellow.
Green.
Break the line, break traction, and break the rules.
Burning asphalt, whining rubber
Tap the brakes, turn the wheel
Pop the clutch and rip the break
Slam the gas and straighten out.
Swing wide, wide away and wide awake.
Redline, into fourth, grinding gears
Watch the sideline burst to tears.
You got no worries, you got no fears.
Because there’s nothing like turning a few heads
Tracing the incline with your treads
Dig the brake into the wheel
This is how it should feel
To leave your mark
On earth, the last fine line
Between heaven and hell.
