A dysfunctional family, and a new stranger in the household again.
Because a pretend father won’t let up
The youngster won’t release his grip from the gun
Stranger words were always, “Shut up, you stupid kid!”
The young child has no other way to make this stop.
And because no one would come to help
A battle of courage had just begun.
When blows came the young child took his sled
to give the stranger a hard pop
Little Henry went under his pillow to grab the rifle
because he couldn’t stand to watch anymore.
For months he saw the bruises on his mother’s face
to end this violence was the conclusion
As Little Henry prepared to end the scuffle
he loaded the rifle when his stranger went to the store
Before the stranger came in the door he took his place
Suddenly, the rifle fired one single shot and ended the confusion
Pretend father is down
Down on the floor, blood all over his chest
Down under the ground, the dirt is dumped on him
mother eyes cry a long time
Big people come and Little Henry frowns
not really understanding this whole mess
he runs to escape the loud noises while he’s on film
when his mother finally brings him back he is chanting rhymes
